A true Yorkshire folly
If you're going to have a folly, you want to be able to enjoy a good view from it and the Temple of Fame at Studley Royal in Yorkshire has done itself proud - the view is superb. It's a bit of a steep climb to reach it but well worth it once you're there. The temple itself poses something of a conundrum though. The columns of the Ionic rotunda aren't made of stone as you would suppose, they're hollow and actually made of wood and plaster. A subtle nod to the hollow and vacuous nature of fame perhaps.
